The Arab world responded to our support of the Israelis in their conflict in the fall of 1973 by an embargo of oil exports to us. Prices at the pumps here rose from 39 cents per gallon in the summer of 1973 to 59 cents in early 1974. The shock had American consumers calling for alternate energies, but most of the initiatives begun then were forgotten once prices settled down a bit. Petroleum, Americans learned, is a very hard substance to replace!

What does an oil drilling crew do when a bit breaks off two miles underground? They call a specialist called a "fisherman" to try to get it out of the hole so they can continue drilling.
This film was produced by an industry that was apparently coming under fire from environmentalists and other opponents.

The Creole Oil Company moves one of its middle managers from the US to Venezuela. This 24-minute story is more travelogue than documentary, but the flavor of a 1950s production is unmistakably there.
