By climbing Niagara Falls we mean climbing the ledge of rock that we see so clearly at Niagara Falls (below). The Niagara Escarpment is a dropoff that runs from Ontario, Canada eastward to about Rochester; and in 1817-1825 it presented one of the most formidable obstacle of all to the builders of the original Erie Canal. The three images that accompany the Falls below are all of the place where the Erie crossed the escarpment at Lockport, NY. The engineering feat that was accomplished at that site became famous then as "The Flight of Five".

The date on the film says 1912, but the narration was done 22 years later. This is apparently part one of a larger documentary.
The production isn't good by modern standards, but it's appeal isn't in its quality: Its in its authenticity. The people you see arent actors: Theyre the American and Panamanian workers who actually built the canal.
